The National Audubon Society

Within the National Audubon Society, The Florida Grasshopper Sparrow Working Group dedicates its time and efforts towards saving the dying Florida Grasshopper Sparrows. The people in this group manage the land the sparrows occupy, and continue to research more about this specific sparrow. Their goal is to manage the sparrows' habitat to the best standard possible, therefore protecting their habitat. They plan on doing so from intensive research effort; examining threats like disease, genetics, and prepare for captive breeding efforts if necessary (Audubon Florida News, 2012). To help, you can donate to Audubon’s efforts towards saving birds that are becoming extinct by clicking here!

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service

There are over 50 endangered species in Florida alone, and each species deserves a chance to be saved (McKey, 2012). The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has put in much effort towards saving the Florida Grasshopper Sparrow. They have created the recovery plan for this species (the plan to prevent and stop any further degradation or destruction of habitat within Kissimmee River Basin), and have done immense research on how to successfully restore this species. What they have also found in their research is that their habitat and the species overall need to be self-sustaining, the nest requirements need to be fulfilled, which are overgrown and non-grazed pastures, and the species need to have a high genetic variability (Florida Grasshopper Sparrow, 1986). The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service cannot financially support all of the endangered bird species. You can help by donating money towards this important research to prevent extinction of this precious bird.

If you are so generous, please make your check or money order payable to the "U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service" and in the memo area write "Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act." This will ensure the funding is directed to the correct program. Each donor will receive a written acknowledgement of their donation. Don't Buy These Products!

To help protect and save the Florida Grasshopper Sparrows habitat, do not buy any product that has been grown or pastured in the south and central prairie land in Florida. More specifically, do not purchase any beef produced in the Kissimmee, Florida area because it has likely been pastured on these lands.

If You See Something Say Somthing

If you see the mistreatment of this bird don’t be afraid to report it! Together we can help protect this species from the harmful world and its surroundings. It takes a community to protect a community.
